Processing Time
The processing time is the time required to process a work item. It is the time spent on manufacturing a product or providing a service. Processing time can be assigned to a single activity or group of activities or to an entire process.
How does processing time affect process performance and compliance?
The processing time is the sum of the duration of the individual activities and the wait time, transport time, and idle time, when applicable. Cycle time and processing time are often used for process analyses and are therefore important indicators of process performance.
If processing times are too long, there is a risk that a company’s specifications or legal requirements will not be met and compliance won’t be guaranteed. A compliance standard for the support requests process is, for example, to have a maximum processing time of 30 minutes.
