The wait time is the period of time in which a work item, like a document, is waiting for further processing. Waiting may be caused by a person or machine required for the process that is working at full capacity. Furthermore, wait time can occur if the continuation of the process requires the completion of a parallel work step. No further processing takes place during that time. The cycle time of the process cycle is made up of the wait time, the processing time, the idle time, and the transport time.
