Appian is an enterprise management and business process automation software company. Appian takes its responsibility to comply with the Modern Slavery Act seriously and has established a work environment and supply chain that is ethical, upholds human rights and is free from slavery and human trafficking. Our Code of Conduct and related policies provide guidance to and require all employees to follow and foster strong ethics and business practices and prohibit slavery or procuring products developed or made, and services provided, as a result of slavery of any kind. These policies are reinforced through regular training delivered to all Appian employees throughout the Appian group globally, both when they start their employment at Appian and every two (2) years thereafter by way of reinforcement.
Appian is headquartered in the State of Virginia in the United States of America and has affiliates and operations around the World. Appian Europe Limited, incorporated in England & Wales, together with its Swiss affiliate, Appian Software International LLC (used as Appian’s primary contracting vehicle with customers and partners outside the US and Canada), are both wholly owned by Appian Corporation, a US-incorporated, listed company.
Appian’s compliance controls include a Code of Conduct, Anti-Corruption and Anti-Bribery Policy, Corporate Social Responsibility Policy, Insider Trading Policy, Environmental Policy and a global Employee Handbook which includes an Equal Opportunity Policy, Anti-Harassment Policy and Non-discrimination Policy. Again, these Policies are reinforced through regular training delivered to all Appian employees at the outset of their Appian careers and every two (2) years thereafter, in addition to being supplemented by regional policies in respect of Appian’s global affiliates. Appian also has a Whistleblower Policy which enables Appian employees to raise compliance concerns anonymously, confidentially and without retaliation.
Appian provides software, both on-premise and in the cloud, along with related training, professional and maintenance services. Appian does not physically manufacture its products in factories. Appian has global operations and licenses its software to a global customer base. Appian provides related services in the countries listed on Appian’s website. Appian’s supply chain includes subcontractors who assist it in providing services to our customers. The measures summarised in this Statement help Appian to navigate, mitigate and avoid compliance risks in the regions in which it operates, irrespective of the robustness of local laws and enforcement in respect of ethical labour practices, including the prohibition of modern slavery.
Appian requires that all employees, subcontractors, partners and their staff are paid a living wage and are hired in accordance with the applicable country’s employment laws and this is reflected in the terms of Appian’s contracts with its employees, partners and supply chain.
Appian also requires that all its suppliers and partners comply with local law, including but not limited to employment laws, anti-corruption laws and any other laws that regulate supply chain operations and labour practices.
Due diligence and risk assessments are performed on suppliers and partners to help ensure their compliance with related laws. Prior to new vendor onboarding Finance runs a Dunn & Bradstreet report to ensure that potential vendors are stable and there are minimal financial risks. Prior to contract review, due diligence checks are completed around personal information, data security, incident response plans, and confidential information.
For example, any potential technology partners cannot contract with Appian until they have satisfactorily completed and signed a due diligence questionnaire which enquires into the prospective partner’s operations and practices from a compliance perspective. Appian further requires existing partners to complete the questionnaire every two years. Appian’s standard contracts contain provisions enabling it to terminate contracts with any suppliers or partners if there is actual knowledge or reasonable belief that compliance requirements stated within an agreement are breached, laws and local ordinances are not being followed or if the vendors have failed to uphold security certifications and protocols.
Furthermore, Appian is able to run compliance checks on all, vendors, partners and subcontractors via our LSEG World-Check license as needed, or upon specific customer request. LSEG World-Check is a database that provides information to help companies comply with regulatory obligations, and reports include structured intelligence on individuals and organizations that may pose a heightened risk. This information can help with: Know Your Customer (KYC), Anti-money laundering (AML), Countering the financing of terrorism (CFT), Anti-bribery and corruption, and Politically exposed persons (PEPs) monitoring.
In signing this Modern Slavery Act Statement on behalf of Appian Europe Limited, Appian gives its commitment to a work environment and supply chain that is ethical, upholds human rights and is free from slavery and human trafficking.
