Now We're Talking: Appian Launches New Podcast

Roland Alston, Appian
November 3, 2022

In September, Appian debuted a new thought leadership podcast called Beyond Transformation featuring conversations with notable big thinkers on topical trends shaping the future of technology, business and work.

The first episode features fintech commentator and best-selling author Chris Skinner spilling the tea on what it means to be purpose-driven and why companies that prioritize people and the planet over profit will do better than businesses that don’t. In episode two, innovation guru and business advisor Greg Satell breaks down the physics of building lasting change in any organization. And in episode three, law professor and AI fairness expert Melissa Hamilton takes us to school on the pivotal role algorithms play in the criminal justice system.

People are busy, attention spans are short.

Which is why each episode of Beyond Transformation is 15 minutes or less. The show is focused as all get out on earning listener trust with smart, fearless commentary from independent thought leaders on a wide range of hot topics such as:

  • Can AI and automation be ethical?
  • Is it time to rethink the gospel of change?
  • How to root out algorithmic bias and get serious about ethical tech.
  • How to be a long-term thinker in a short-term world.
  • Why regulatory oversight is key to turning the trillion dollar ESG trend into a movement that can save the world.

Gearing up for Prime Time

New episodes will drop every other week with a rotating list of tantalizing guests including:

  • MIT scholar and best-sellling author George Westerman who breaks down the new elements of digital transformation.
  • Consumer Technology Association CEO Gary Shapiro who dishes on the “ninja future” and how to stay relevant in a fast-changing world.
  • Duke University professor and best-selling author Dorie Clark who takes us to school on how to be a long-term thinker in a short-term world.
  • Former Blackrock sustainability CIO Tariq Fancy who helps us navigate the trillion dollar ESG shift and cut through the smoke and mirrors on greenwashing.
  • University of Surrey Law Professor and AI Fairness expert Melissa Hamilton who drops some serious knowledge on rooting out algorithmic bias in the criminal justice system.

Podcasting isn’t new but growing demand for easily consumable audio content has fueled a boom in the industry which is expected to hit the $4 billion mark by 2024, up from $2 billion this year according to Price,  Waterhouse, Coopers. But more than that, over 40% of department heads, VPs, owners, and C-level execs listen to podcasts, and organizations that participate in branded podcasts score significantly higher on brand awareness than companies that don’t.

So yes, podcasting is a thing but Beyond Transformation isn’t for everyone and that’s okay. On the other hand, if you're down with expert commentary on trends and tough topics that are shaping the future of technology, business and work, Beyond Transformation is for you.
