Mobile BPM solutions key as data becomes more important in government

Business process management solutions play an integral role in helping organizations maximize the value of the data available to them. This functionality could prove incredibly important in the public sector, where many agencies have access to treasure troves of data that they are struggling to put to use because their IT and process frameworks are not up to the task. According to a recent Forbes report, government organizations are beginning to recognize the value that advanced IT solutions can offer.

The news source explained that options like implementing cloud infrastructure solutions and BPM software can go a long way toward helping government organizations maximize the value of their data.

Using advanced technologies to unlock data's potential in government

Brian Gryth, program manager of the Colorado Secretary of State's Business Intelligence Center, told Forbes that many government agencies face unique challenges trying to invest in new technology and integrate those solutions with their processes. While government entities may face unusual challenges trying to develop innovative IT strategies, they also have the potential to create more value than organizations in other sectors because of the data they handle.

"I think the biggest selling point is, we're just sitting on top of mountains of data," Gryth told the news source. "We have a lot of information, and it is owned by the people, and it's not useful unless we're putting it out there."

Gryth's comments came within the context of the Gartner Symposium and ITxpo, where many conversations centered around the way BYOD, the Internet of Things and other emerging technology trends are transforming the way people can gather and use data, the report explained. Government agencies must be ready to take advantage of data through tools like BPM that align technology, data and processes.

Aligning processes with mobile device use

The BYOD movement often comes up in the context of public sector technology investments, and with good reason. BYOD enables government workers and contractors to seamlessly communicate and collaborate in the field, at the office or when working from an alternate location. However, leveraging BYOD effectively hinges on having mobile BPM strategies that can ensure clear process management across mobile channels.

Mobile BPM could prove vital moving forward as a recent Gartner study predicted that most mobile apps will begin syncingdeep, meaningful data about users as soon as 2015. This functionality will only be enhanced by wearables, as 50 percent of app interactions will take place on wearables as of 2017.

Government agencies have a lot of data that they can leverage effectively through mobile channels, but they need to effectively integrate processes across the cloud apps and mobile devices that fuel application use on these systems.
