How to Drive Digital Transformation at Global Scale: Sibos 2022 Recap

Marianne Elie, Director, Financial Services Industry Marketing
November 28, 2022

What an action-packed week at Sibos, the world’s premier financial services event held last month in Amsterdam. It was exciting to be back with other industry leaders to talk about the future of banking and how intelligent automation is critical for success.

Driving digital transformation on a global scale, at speed.

Appian is modernizing processes for some of the largest banks, including many in attendance. In fact, we were excited to kick off Sibos on stage together with our client Rabobank, the second largest bank in the Netherlands.

About a year ago, Rabobank set an aggressive goal of implementing a more centralized, globally consistent approach to customer lifecycle management (CLM) to improve customer service. Session attendees followed the bank’s digital transformation journey, achieved using the Appian platform.

Rabobank achieved a number of major accomplishments, including their ability to:

  • Streamline applications around the world while remaining compliant with local regulations.
  • Pull meaningful reporting and analytics from the data available across the workflow and various processes.
  • Achieve the CLM initiative in record time, paving the way for more process automation across lending and other areas.

Modernizing banking processes through automation.

In an ever-changing macroeconomic environment, many institutions are doubling down on efficiency improvements. Our interviews with Financial IT illustrates how automation is addressing some of banking’s biggest challenges in workflows for the most complex, mission-critical applications. In fact, 31% of financial services executives say that automation is one of the most important technologies of the next 12 months in successfully modernizing financial services organizations.

In our more than 50 meetings at Sibos with executive leaders from banks, alliance partners, and analyst firms, there was excitement around how Appian can help with the increasingly complex regulatory mandates and customer expectations. There was specific interest in Appian customer lifecycle management solutions, which speed time to revenue, offer a client-centric approach to gain a competitive edge, and provide faster time to value through process automation.

Sustainability initiatives. And saving penguins.

Sustainability was at the heart of this year’s Sibos event. Organizers reduced the volume of exhibition and conference materials used, sourced locally to prevent unnecessary transportation, and selected options that could be rented, reused, or recycled. Even the carpet was 100% recyclable.

Appian made a big splash with our drive to save the endangered Magellanic penguins in collaboration with the Organization for the Conservation of Penguins’ Adopt-a-Penguin program. A big thank you to our 700 visitors for engaging with us and helping us save the lives of a dozen penguins.
