Matt Calkins is the CEO and founder of Appian. He is an industry pioneer and a frequently cited expert on artificial intelligence. Under his leadership, Appian has helped the world’s largest organizations run better processes to reduce costs, improve customer experiences, and gain a strategic edge.

Matt built Appian from a startup in his basement to the most successful software IPO of 2017 with just $10 million of outside capital. All four original founders remain active in the business.

He was the top Economics graduate of his class at Dartmouth. He's the author of several award-winning board games, and a competitor in game tournaments.

He is a recognized voice on the intersection of technology, economics, and corporate ethics. He has served on the board of the Northern Virginia Technology Council, the Virginia Public Access Project, and the Sorensen Institute.
