College to Transform Student-Advisor Relations with Cloud Application Platform

RESTON, Va.—August, 5 2015— Appian today announced that the University of South Florida College of Public Health (USF COPH), a leading college offering a variety of programs and concentrations in public health at the bachelor’s (BSPH), master’s (MPH, MSPH, MHA) and doctoral (PhD, DrPH) levels, has selected Appian Cloud as its platform to rapidly deliver modern business applications. Appian’s Application Platform will connect nearly 300 faculty and staff employees and 850 graduate students in a collaborative advisor/advisee experience through a single user interface complete with advanced data management and enterprise mobility. Whether on the go via mobile device or on desktop, the ultimate goal is to help students have a seamless experience in managing their journey towards obtaining a degree.

USF COPH has 170 faculty with regular, adjunct and affiliate appointments as well as 122 professional and support staff. The College offers almost 100 courses online, including six complete online degree programs. Its premier curriculum offers transformational research and interdisciplinary approaches to creatively solve problems and enhance the universal right to health and well-being.

“We have embarked upon a new transformational approach to education and partnering with Appian is a key part of the journey,” said Donna J. Petersen, ScD, MHS, CPH Dean of the USF COPH.  “Appian enables us to take a modern approach to allow our students to manage their academic portfolio and take control of their future.”

USF COPH will combine Appian’s process automation and business rules to create a modern solution for both faculty advisors and students to access critical information that ensures students are on the path towards graduation. Appian will integrate with the existing BANNER system, leveraging a flexible cloud platform to digitize previously paper and email-based processes for curriculum requests and actions, including schedule changes, access to graduation requirements and scheduling meetings with advisors. All actions taken by students are accessible from any leading mobile device, creating an accelerated and easy-to-use experience. Following the initial pilot program, the College plans to deploy the application to the entire undergraduate community within USF COPH.

“With Appian, we are able to blend enterprise innovations such as cloud delivery, mobile enablement and process automation to ensure the students at USF Health receive the proper educational experience towards fulfilling their master’s requirements,” said Sidney Fernandes, Chief Information Officer for USF Health. “Using Appian as a modern application platform supports our mission to leverage workplace technology to better understand health and how its future can transform our quality of life.”
