When it comes to the Internet of Things, Mobility is Everything

The Internet of Things (IoT) has been all the talk of late. Today we see more and more smart devices introduced to consumers, forcing business to keep up. As BYOD continues to evolve as a major component of the workplace environment, and as other devices and sensors begin collecting and sending more data, leading organizations must align IT strategies with IoT.

It is no longer just some over-used buzzword.

But why the urgency when it comes to business? I don't see anyone around my office working on an iWatch or a pair of Google Glasses. While IoT devices themselves primarily spark consumers, it is their value for mobility and data awareness that falls squarely on the shoulders of business.

Next generation devices get all the attention, but the foundation of IoT lies in the ability to be aware of process from anywhere, at anytime. Organizations that develop IT solutions complete with instant access to data gain a leg up on the competition, while others remain over their heads with each new device that reaches the market.

Whether monitoring energy usage in our homes, providing real time data to field service staff, or managing supply chains for major retailers, end users of IoT data will frequently be on the go. Turning the vast amounts of data and awareness generated by the coming wave of IoT devices into rapid, responsive action will be key to its success and transformational capabilities.

Appian is pleased to sponsor a webinar that is sure to spark the IoT debate entitled,"Planning for the Internet of Things: Why Mobility is Everything,"taking place tomorrow at 2:00pm EST.
