A growing number of businesses are using mobile capture technologies to accelerate processes and improve operations. However, the concept of mobile capture creates a variety of challenges that need to be addressed. Business process management software can overcome these difficulties, allowing organizations to create new revenue opportunities.

Rise of mobile capture solutions

The consumerization of IT and enterprise mobility trends have become apparent around the world. As more employees get the job done outside of the office, they are increasingly using their mobile devices to capture information and share it with their co-workers. When combined with traditional field work, these trends indicate that many people are working from places other than the office. According to a recent study performed by the Institute for Information Management, the ability to use mobile capture to gather data at the point of origin is becoming a prominent trend, particularly in Australia and New Zealand, CFO World reported.

Approximately 20 percent of survey respondents said they are currently using mobile capture technology, while another 20 percent said they plan to use the technology soon. This trend is growing quickly, as almost 50 percent of those polled said they will be using mobile capture technologies by 2013, the news source explained.

Primary drivers for mobile capture are both internal and external. Approximately 45 percent or respondents said they are using mobile capture primarily because it enables them to respond to customers, suppliers and staff more efficiently. Further, 40 percent of those polled explained that improved worker productivity is pushing them toward mobile capture, the report said.

Importance of BPM software in mobile capture

While mobile capture is a powerful operational tool, using it successfully depends heavily on being able to get data from the mobile user through the IT setup and to the correct destination in a timely and accurate fashion. Accomplishing this is extremely difficult without the help of process automation and cloud, mobile and social integration. BPM software allows organizations to optimize their process through automation and integration, enabling them to use advanced technologies like mobile capture to improve operations.

As mobile technologies gain a stronghold around the world and more companies depend on mobile workers collaborating effectively with their colleagues, BPM solutions emerge as a vital technology that enables various cloud, mobile and social software solutions to work with each other without straining IT departments.
