Federal Cloud Computing: Amazon Web Services and Appian Team for GovCloud (US)

This morning we announced that Amazon Web Services has named Appian an official solution partner for the new AWS GovCloud (US). AWS GovCloud (US) is an AWS Region designed to allow U.S. government agencies and contractors to move more sensitive workloads into the cloud by addressing their specific regulatory and compliance requirements. This will help quiet some of the "exaggerated security fears" that are being voiced by opponents of federal cloud computing. It is also significant to Appian in that it is a deepening our our 3-pronged relationship with Amazon.

Appian now has a bi-directional partnership with Amazon Web Services. The majority of our commercial and federal Cloud BPM customers are hosted on the Amazon EC2 infrastructure, and now federal agencies opting for the enhanced security safeguards of GovCloud (US) can leverage the Appian BPM Suite in that context as well. In addition, Amazon.com is also an Appian customer, using our BPM platform for a number of critical financial processes that save the online retail giant millions of dollars annually.

Teresa Carlson, AWS Vice President, Global Public Sector, said, "Appian continues to be an innovator in providing AWS cloud-based software to our customers so they can benefit from the secure, scalable and cost-effective services. With the addition of offering support for AWS GovCloud (US), we are able to extend our long-standing relationship and provide a new level of support specific to existing and future government agencies and contractors."

Even prior to the unveiling of AWS GovCloud (US), Appian Cloud was FISMA-certified to meet thecritical security requirements for government IT systems. In August of last year, our BPM software running on AWS was accredited with an Authority to Operate (ATO) designation. The Dept. of Education and other agencies have already tested the Appian Cloud waters, and found them to be secure, low-cost, and high-value.

Cloud computing is the future of both commercial and federal enterprise IT. The value proposition of rapid time to deployment, minimal internal IT impact, no up-front investment and increased collaboration in a shared services model is simply too great to ignore. With AWS GovCloud (US), the barriers to Federal cloud computing have been reduced even further.
