sachcontrol: Making Insurance Claims Processing with AI a Reality

Business Problem

As part of processing property insurance claims, sachcontrol employees need to review a vast amount of information, ranging from invoices and images to granular data. One of the challenges is the need to identify, index and process a high volume of claims, related content, and images, consistently and quickly.

Sachcontrol wants to provide faster service to more clients with higher quality and better efficiency. The new solution needed to be intelligent, flexible, quick to deploy, and deliver real business impact.

Appian Solution

Using the Appian Low-Code Platform, sachcontrol created a new insurance claims management solution for invoice verification and photo analysis using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The new system scans invoices using Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and compares and maps invoices to image vectors to verify accuracy and detect fraud. It also scans photos of damaged objects such as windows, shutters, or rooftops, and leverages Machine Learning (ML) models and existing business data to provide repair cost estimates. This shortens the claims process end-to-end, from incident reporting, property inspection, repair estimates, and invoice to case closure.

Sachcontrol’s claims specialists can now upload and update property damage images directly from mobile devices to the cloud application, then receive a repair cost estimate from submitted photos and other required information. The new system provides more consistent pricing estimates, regardless of the skills and experience level of the claims specialist. The new solutions also improved claims and payment processing time with better operational efficiency and 99.7% customer satisfaction level for sachcontrol.
